The icon of Christ Pantokrator, or the God King, belongs to the dogmatically most important religious images.

The Pantokrator icon shows the Savior in the convention of the ruler with a cross halo. Christ holds the open book of the Bible in his left hand and blesses with his right. The finger gesture is taken from the liturgy and has a symbolic meaning. In a more archaic approach, the straight, small, middle and index fingers form the Greek letters IX, and the ring finger the Greek letter C. Monogram IXC Means Jesus Christ. In the long form, IC XC is written on the sides of the Savior's head. In Russian iconography, the second variant of finger folding is more common. Two fingers, index and middle, are stretched out and joined together as a sign of a hypostatic union (that is, two natures: human and divine united in the person of Christ). The fourth and fifth fingers are connected. Gold halo and background - an ancient attribute of the ruler and deities. Him who is the Lord of all rulers, or Pantoctrator. In the open book of the Bible, the most frequently written words are related to the Last Judgment: Go, blessed with My Father, take the kingdom prepared for the world! The first shows the Savior in the half-figure, the second sitting on the throne (in the mandorla or without), the third - standing in full form. It is painted using only a few pigments.
